THE FRAME
Framing is an art form in its own right. Until it is framed, a picture is not really complete. The frame of a painting should be made so its color and texture support and reinforce the effect of the work of the artist. The frame functions as decorative border, as a support, and as protection for the painting. The frame also separates the painting from its surroundings.
When a painting is put into a frame it changes. I have always been compelled to rework parts of my paintings upon seeing them in their frames.
Making my own frames, I reasoned, could solve this problem. The frame would evolve with it's painting.
When I begin a painting, I start the frame. The painting and frame proceed simultaneously.
Towards the completion, I will work on the painting in its frame, one affects the other.
